...and another move
True to my bohemic lifestyle, I am sort of, kind of, not really pleased to announce that I have, once again, moved. But not very far. I'm still in Maryland, but closer to my fiance (who is a little happier that I'm closer). Of course, she would prefer if I moved within 5 feet of her...but there will be plenty of time for that to happen. Best not to rush into things too quickly. The way I look at this is that this whole moving in thing is much like testing the water when you first start swimming. If you are not in a public pool, you gently wade in, adjusting yourself to the temperature of the water and make sure no sharks are present just in case you need to make a quick escape back to shore.
But I digress.
I am located near the PA and Delaware border, working at Elk Neck State Park as a Seasonal Ranger. For those of you keeping track, yes, I have worked there before and I am excited to be working there again. The mix of personalities on both the classified and seasonal side of the payroll are diverse and will certainly make for an entertaining summer at the very least. If the park falls into the Chesapeake Bay, well, at least we will have fun while it is happening.
Many things have changed at Elk Neck since I was there last. Several policy changes plus some changes to the physical layout of the park - i.e. new trails, which will give me more opportunities to get lost in the woods. Yay. Another reason that I am excited to be back is that I am not typically a person that fits into "molds" well. Often, I feel like a square peg in a round hole, however, working in the park, I feel very much at home. Perhaps it is because it is work in the woods plus people work, perhaps it is because of working with people with similar work ethics; perhaps, even, it is a job that requires working individually as much as it requires working as a team. Whatever the reason, I have a great fondness for Elk Neck and the people who work and visit their. Very few places (three, to be exact, including Elk Neck) have been able to offer me the same feeling of being able to provide a mold that I can fit into. Perhaps that is why I keep coming back.
Have I found my "career" as a park ranger? Perhaps....I know what I want, as always, but the problem continually seems to be that I have yet to figure out exactly how to get there.
